Our continual focus on client satisfaction has seen us grow surely and steadily to become one of the city's oldest, largest and most trusted law firms.
We have a fantastic team of approachable, friendly and knowledgeable lawyers, legal executives and other staff who know how to keep clients fully informed whilst solving their legal issues quickly, efficently and cost effectively.
History
Our firm was founded in 1923 when Arthur Cavell (a distinguished recipient of the Military Medal for Valour at Gallipoli) commenced practice as a solicitor with Jock Milliken who had recently moved to Christchurch from Auckland.
A few months later they were joined by Tam Leitch who became a partner in the early 30's and the firm's steady expansion in size on the back of a commitment to service and professionalism had begun.
Ian Pringle joined the firm in 1948 and when he was made Partner in 1953 the firm became known as Cavell Leitch & Pringle. A President of the Canterbury District Law Society, Ian Pringle took the concept of client service to levels previously unheralded by Canterbury lawyers and led our firm through an unprecedented period of growth by focusing on communication, service and integrity throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s.
This was a golden period of growth in New Zealand and the firm welcomed Des Boyle as a partner followed by many more solicitors who went on to become Partners. Many of these individuals still spearhead the firm's relentless pursuit for improvement.
As the firm has successfully expanded it has moved it's city office several times and has opened branch offices in Riccarton and New Brighton to ensure greater client access and service in both the east and west of the city.
The firm is committed to continuing to serve our clients in New Zealand and elsewhere yet remains proud of its provincial origins here in Canterbury.
We currently have over 75 outstanding employees in our three offices and the firm's commitment to service, enjoyment and improvement has never been stronger.
We have and continue to use the latest in computer, scanning, photocopying, printing, document storage and software to ensure that our systems are robust and our client's information is readily available and secure.
We helped to develop and introduce computerised diary systems well before Microsoft Outlook was standard and today we use a comprehensive Critical Task Management System that it is at the leading edge of anything available globally to law firms to manage the key dates and events for our clients.
As one of the largest property law firms in the South Island we were one of a handful of firms invited to test pilot Land Information New Zealand's" Landonline" software - a world first in enabling lawyers to transfer the ownership of land and discharge and register mortgages directly from our computers in cyberspace.
We see technology as a means of providing greater information and responsiveness to clients and greater enjoyment and productivity to our staff through better processing of the routine parts of legal practice.
We see it as our role in the legal community in Canterbury to continue to be at the forefront of legal technological innovation and change.
